Smiths Detection Enhances El Salvador Customs Operations
Smiths Detection, a leader in threat detection and security inspection technologies, has secured a contract with El Salvador Customs to provide a suite of High-energy Cargo & Vehicle (HCV) X-ray inspection systems. This deployment aims to improve border security by effectively detecting and deterring smuggling, contraband, and drug trafficking.
The contract specifically includes the HCVP Z60 (drive-through portal), which is engineered to boost cargo scanning efficiency and bolster risk management operations. This system can scan between 100 to 120 vehicles each hour, significantly aiding customs teams in identifying potential threats while minimizing the need for manual inspections.
Additionally, the deployment features the HCVM XT, a mobile X-ray screening system that can be easily relocated as needed. Its compact design and minimal infrastructure requirements make it ideal for challenging operational conditions. Smiths Detection will oversee the implementation of this project with assistance from Global Customs Solutions.
All HCV inspection systems are equipped with advanced image enhancement tools and algorithms, including machine learning options, which assist in delivering faster and more accurate image analysis. These technological advancements are designed to enhance throughput and empower border agencies to confidently identify illicit goods and high-risk shipments.
German Castro, Business Development Manager at Smiths Detection, commented: “We are proud to continue our relationship with El Salvador Customs. Every day, large volumes of goods and vehicles pass through El Salvador’s entry and exit points. Our integrated screening technology will help customs teams efficiently screen a wide range of vehicles and goods, while ensuring the smooth flow of legitimate trade.”
