NatWest Group Faces App Outage
NatWest has issued an apology to its customers after its mobile banking app in the UK went offline, leaving many unable to access their bank accounts.
Since issues began at 09:10 GMT, over 3,000 users have reported problems on the outage-checking site, Downdetector.
According to NatWest's service status website, its online banking service and card payments continue to function normally. The bank stated, "We're sorry for any inconvenience caused and we're working hard getting everything back up and running for you." The BBC has reached out to NatWest for further comments.
Frustrated customers have taken to social media, sharing their experiences with the IT failure. One user mentioned they had to "put back my shopping because of it," while another expressed their inability to transfer money for shopping plans.
NatWest has informed users via social media that there is currently "no timeframe" for resolving the issue but assured that their team is diligently working on it.
Customers are encouraged to access their accounts through other means, such as online banking, if possible. This incident adds to a series of banking outages that have plagued the UK, with reports indicating that 1.2 million individuals were affected in 2024.
