Chez Nous: A Culinary Venture by David Kuhn and Kevin Thompson
On Wednesday night, renowned literary agent and former magazine editor David Kuhn made a bold move into the restaurant industry, a field known for its precarious profit margins.
Partnering with his life partner, Kevin Thompson, a production designer known for the Oscar-nominated film Maestro, the duo has opened their first restaurant, Chez Nous, located on the Eighth Street just above street level at the Marlton Hotel in the West Village.
Mr. Thompson noted that their unique location made the venture less costly compared to starting from scratch, estimating renovations at under $1 million.
They joined forces with Sean MacPherson, a seasoned figure in New York City's hospitality scene. MacPherson previously operated the legendary nightclub Area in the 1980s and has since transitioned into the hotel business, acquiring stakes in notable properties like the Bowery Hotel, Chelsea Hotel, and Ludlow.
Today, MacPherson's properties cater to a well-connected local clientele, appealing to those who have moved on from nightlife yet still enjoy the finer things, such as an $8.75 cappuccino.
