Dean Kamen Resigns from Beta Technologies Board
Dean Kamen, the renowned inventor and founder of FIRST Robotics, has stepped down from the Board of Directors of Beta Technologies ($BETA), an electric aviation company based in Vermont. This decision comes in light of queries regarding his past interactions with the late Jeffrey Epstein, a convicted sex offender.
According to a regulatory filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, Kamen's resignation took effect on February 18, 2026. The statement noted, "Dean Kamen has voluntarily stepped down from the Board of Directors (the 'Board') of BETA Technologies, Inc. (the 'Company'), effective February 18, 2026." Furthermore, Kamen was also a member of the Compensation Committee of the Board.
The filing emphasizes that the decision was made to avoid potential distractions as the company focuses on executing its strategic priorities. Kamen's contributions over the years have been significant, providing valuable guidance and leadership as well as advancing innovation within the engineering sector.
Earlier this month, Kamen's nonprofit, FIRST, announced it would engage an outside law firm to investigate his conduct while he takes a leave of absence. Another organization he founded, the Advanced Regenerative Manufacturing Institute (ARMI), stated that he has recused himself from its board during an independent review.
While Kamen has not been accused of any criminal activity related to Epstein, his previous connections, which include phone calls, emails, and shared travel, have raised concerns. Kamen has publicly denied any knowledge of Epstein's crimes beyond what he learned from news reports.
