RBC's Commitment to Food Security
RBC (RY) has announced a global commitment of $10 million to support organizations tackling food insecurity, aligning with its goal to address growing inequality. This initiative is part of RBC's broader ambition to invest $2 billion in community projects by 2035.
“Strengthening our communities is at the heart of everything we do,” said Andrea Barrack, SVP of Sustainability & Impact at RBC. “Food security is a pressing need and a foundation for thriving communities. We must develop broader solutions that address today's needs and ensure a sustainable future through food storage, supply, distribution, and farming innovations.”
Employee Engagement and Community Support
RBC employees are encouraged to engage in this initiative by participating in matching donation programs and volunteering with local partners focused on food security. The funding will support various organizations across Canada, the U.S., and the U.K., including the Ottawa Community Foundation, Food Banks Canada, Fresh Routes, and World Central Kitchen.
Corey Ellis, Co-founder and CEO of Growcer, emphasized the importance of community-level systemic change in addressing the food security crisis in Canada. “Thanks to RBC’s investment, we are launching sustainable local food initiatives that will help communities grow fresh produce year-round while providing individuals with hands-on farming training.”
The Growing Need for Support
With 8.7 million Canadians facing food insecurity in 2023—a 26% increase from the previous year—charities and non-profits require more support than ever. RBC’s funding is part of a larger commitment to foster inclusive opportunities for prosperity, including financial wellbeing and skill-building.
As a global financial institution, RBC continues to make a significant impact through donations and community investments, further supporting its vision of thriving communities. For more information on RBC's initiatives, visit insideticker.com/ticker/rbc.
